Fiji Celebrates Historic Inaugural Flight to Cairns, Strengthening Tourism and Connectivity

Suva, Fiji 14 April 2025 – The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation proudly joins Fiji Airways and Cairns Airport in celebrating the historic inaugural flight from Nadi to Cairns, marking a significant milestone in Fiji’s aviation and tourism sectors.

This new, year-round service not only strengthens the ties between Fiji and Tropical North Queensland but also opens seamless travel opportunities for leisure, business, and education. With a flight time of just over four hours, this route brings our two regions closer than ever before, fostering cultural exchange and economic growth.

The direct connection to Cairns is a testament to Fiji Airways’ commitment to expanding Fiji’s global connectivity. By aligning with Fiji Airways’ Dallas Fort Worth schedule, this route offers fast, one-stop access to North America—reducing travel time and enhancing convenience for travellers from both regions.

“Aviation and tourism are twin pillars of Fiji’s economy, and this new service strengthens both sectors by enhancing connectivity and creating valuable opportunities. The expanded air link will stimulate tourism growth, support local businesses, and foster trade and investment, while also reinforcing Fiji’s position as a regional aviation hub. We congratulate Fiji Airways, Cairns Airport, and all partners involved for their vision and collaboration in making this milestone possible.”

As we celebrate this game-changing route, we invite travellers from Cairns and beyond to experience the warmth, beauty, and hospitality of Fiji—where happiness comes naturally.
