Fiji Welcomes India’s Suravi Dance Group in Celebration of Shared Culture and Friendship
Suva, Fiji – June 30, 2025 – In a vibrant celebration of shared heritage and cultural ties, Fiji’s Coalition Government hosted India’s Suravi Dance Group at Jai Narayan College in Suva last night. The event, attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Hon Viliame Gavoka, highlighted the strength of Fiji-India relations and the importance of cultural diplomacy.
Led by the acclaimed Guru Dr. Pitambar Biswal, the Suravi Dance Group delivered a series of classical Indian performances that combined spiritual depth with technical mastery. The crowd was visibly moved by the storytelling and grace woven into each dance.
“Tonight is more than a performance,” said the Deputy Prime Minister. “It’s a reminder that while oceans may divide us, our histories and hearts remain deeply connected.”
He also praised the Indo-Fijian community for preserving cultural traditions while contributing to the country’s broader identity. “They are a living bridge between our two nations,” he said.
The event acknowledged the support of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Indian High Commission in Fiji, with High Commissioner Shri Suneet Mehta in attendance. Their continued efforts have played a central role in promoting cultural exchange and people-to-people ties.
This visit follows several key milestones in the Fiji-India relationship, including Indian President Smt. Droupadi Murmu’s historic visit in August 2024 and the participation of Minister Shri Pabitra Margherita in Fiji’s 146th Girmit Day Anniversary.
As the evening concluded, the message was clear: the friendship between Fiji and India is thriving—rooted in mutual respect, shared history, and a common belief in unity through diversity.
