20 August 2025 – Port Denarau – Today at Port Denarau, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, officially commissioned the Yasawa Flyer III, marking a major milestone for Fijiβs tourism and transport sectors.
Built to serve the Yasawa Islands, the 30-meter catamaran can carry up to 320 passengers and is expected to transport over 3.5 million people in its lifetime. More than just a vessel, it represents a bold investment in connectivity, community development, and tourism growth.
Hon. Gavoka emphasized that the Yasawa Flyer III is not only a symbol of progress but also a testament to Fijiβs commitment to safety. He praised the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) for ensuring the vessel met stringent safety standards, including those set by Australia. βPassenger safety is not a guideline, it is the law,β he stated firmly, underscoring the Coalition Governmentβs zero-tolerance stance on non-compliance.
The vessel is 100% Fijian-owned under Fijian Holdings and is part of an ambitious $80 million investment plan that includes new vessels, resorts, and attractions. It will serve not only tourists but also local communities, enhancing access, reliability, and economic opportunity across the Yasawas.
In closing, Hon. Gavoka offered a poetic tribute:
“Let your bow point toward endless horizons of development, and let your stern leave a wake of memories, guidance, and progress for future generations to follow.”
A proud moment for Fijiβs maritime and tourism future.
