๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ, ๐๐๐๐ – ๐๐๐ซ๐ซ๐ข๐จ๐ญ๐ญ ๐ ๐ข๐ฃ๐ข ๐๐๐ฌ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, announced the extension of Fijiโs partnership with the World Surf League (WSL) to 2029 while officially opening the 2025 Lexus WSL Finals at Marriott Fiji Resort, Momi Bay.
In his address, Hon. Gavoka emphasized that the event represents more than competition, describing it as a partnership that strengthens community ties, promotes environmental stewardship, and positions Fiji as a leading destination for global sports tourism.
He noted the success of last yearโs return of the Fiji Pro, which delivered significant international media value while supporting local communities. Legacy initiatives included the rebuilding of the Surf Tower for the people of Momi and Nabila, and environmental programs such as the One Ocean initiative with the Mamanuca Environment Society.
The Minister highlighted the importance of inspiring young Fijians, pointing to rising talent such as 16-year-old James Kusitino who is stepping onto the professional stage. He said the presence of the worldโs best surfers provides a powerful example for youth to pursue excellence.
Acknowledging the contributions of sponsors, partners, workers, and volunteers, Hon. Gavoka expressed gratitude for their role in ensuring the success of the Finals. He affirmed that Fiji stands proudly behind the athletes and wished them success as they take on the waves at Cloudbreak.
โThe 2025 Lexus WSL Finals Fiji is not only a celebration of sport, but also a celebration of our people and the ocean that defines us,โ he said.
The tournament will run from August 27 to September 4 at Cloudbreak
