
Press Release – Government Reaffirms Confidence in Tourism Fiji Leadership
SUVA, October 31, 2025 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame R. Gavoka, reaffirmed the Coalition Government’s confidence in Tourism Fiji during its Board Meeting held at the Ministry headquarters in Suva.
He congratulated the Board on a successful recruitment process and officially welcomed Ms. Ilisaveci Matatolu as the new Chairperson for the Tourism Fiji Board and Dr. Paresh Pant as the new Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Fiji. “Tourism Fiji’s leadership continues to play a central role in shaping our economy and sustaining thousands of Fijian livelihoods,” Hon. Gavoka said.
Government’s Confidence and Expectations
Hon. Gavoka said the Government values the professionalism and creativity demonstrated by the Board but expects the highest standards of governance and accountability. “Strong governance builds trust with partners, investors, and the Fijian people,” he said. He reaffirmed that the Government remains a committed partner while expecting transparency, integrity, and alignment with national priorities.
New Leadership
The Minister welcomed Dr. Pant into the role of CEO, noting that his appointment comes at a time of transformation in global tourism. “Consumer behaviour, technology, and sustainability expectations are evolving,” Hon. Gavoka said. “We have every confidence that under your leadership, Tourism Fiji will continue to build on its proud legacy and set new benchmarks for excellence.”
He also congratulated Ms. Matatolu on her appointment as Chair, recognising her leadership and experience in guiding the organisation forward.
Deepening Partnerships
Hon. Gavoka called for closer collaboration between Tourism Fiji, the Ministry, and industry stakeholders. “Tourism Fiji’s marketing work and the Ministry’s policy direction must continue to speak with one voice,” he said. He stressed the need for coordinated resource management and unified messaging to promote a vision grounded in sustainability, inclusion, and resilience.
Upcoming Events and Policy Priorities
The Minister highlighted upcoming events including the Fiji Tourism Convention in January, Tourism Excellence Awards in February, and the Fiji Tourism Exchange in March. He also noted the continuation of the WSL Fiji Pro and the new St Kilda–AFL partnership, further strengthening Fiji’s global tourism profile.
He added that the Ministry is finalising Fiji’s first tourism legislation and national standards, marking a major step toward improving governance and service quality.
Commitment to Good Governance
Hon. Gavoka acknowledged existing Board vacancies and confirmed the Government’s commitment to filling them soon. “The next few years will test our agility and creativity as a destination,” he said. “But the Government stands beside you as a partner.”
He closed by thanking the Chair, Board members, and new CEO for their leadership. “Vinaka vakalevu and all the best for the remaining year.”
