Pacific Tourism Organization 

Fiji is a founding member of the Pacific Tourism Organization (formerly Tourism Council of the South Pacific and then South Pacific Tourism Organization), which was established in 1983.

The SPTO is the mandated organization representing tourism in the region, with 21 Government members and about 200 private sector members. Its role is to promote, facilitate, undertake, co-ordinate, advise and co-operate tourism related activities that promote sustainable tourism development in the Pacific.

As a founding member and host country of the SPTO, Fiji has actively participated in the progress of the SPTO and growth of tourism in the Pacific.

Tourism Fiji

Tourism Fiji is the Fijian government’s tourism marketing arm and is responsible for promoting Fiji as a visitor destination around the world.

UN Tourism (UNWTO)

The World Tourism Organization is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. Fiji has been a member under the Commission for East Asia and the Pacific since 1997.

Our Collaboration

Over the years, Fiji’s commitment and participation internationally has allowed for a greater vision for tourism, as well as, the formation of new and stronger alliances to broaden the reach of the Fijian tourism industry.

  • In 2018, Fiji successfully hosted the UNWTO 30th Joint Meeting of the Commission for East Asia and the Pacific (CAP) and the Commission for South Asia (CSA).
  • At the 31st CAP -SA, Fiji was elected a member of the Committee on Tourism and Competitiveness (CTC).
  • At the 33rd CAP meeting, Fiji has been successfully elected as the Vice Chair for the CAP, a step forward in advocating for the Pacific’s and Fiji’s voice in the international platform.
  •  Fiji successfully hosted the UNWTO Workshop on Sustainable Tourism Development in the Pacific Islands in a hybrid format in Suva on 31 March 2021.
  • At the 55th Meeting of the Commission for East Asia and the Pacific, Fiji concluded its Vice-Chairmanship and was successfully elected as the East Asia and the Pacific region’s representative to the Committee on Tourism and Sustainability, a subsidiary, technical body of the Executive Council, for the period 2023-2027. The Committee on Tourism and Sustainability is composed of nine Full Members, appointed by the Executive Council on the recommendation of the Regional Commissions.
