Job Overview

The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (‘MTCA’), as a newly established Ministry, is responsible for policies and strategies that promote Fiji’s tourism industry. The Ministry also oversees civil aviation laws and policies to promote safe, reliable, and affordable air services to and within Fiji.

In this regard, the MTCA is looking for suitable and qualified individuals for the post of Tourism Officer (2 positions), to support the development and implementation of tourism policies and strategies for the sustainable development and growth of the Fiji tourism industry. Both positions will be based in Suva, Fiji.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The position will achieve its purpose through the following:

1) Analyse reports and project proposals to provide recommendations based on return on investments that support evidence-based decision-making;

2) Coordinate Fiji’s participation at events, meetings and workshops;

3) Undertake research and analyse data to identify and evaluate emerging trends to assist in the formulation of policy responses;

4) Provide secretariat support services, develop reports, updates and implement action items;

5) Contribute to the maximisation of benefits to Fiji’s membership in regional and international tourism;

6) Support the co-creation and delivery of community-based tourism initiatives;

7) Support the planning, mainstreaming and implementation of sustainable tourism strategies/policies and projects in line with the Fiji Government’s environment and socio-economic goals; and

8) Actively contribute to the Ministry and corporate requirement, including planning, budgeting and human resource activities where required.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

1) At least 3 – 5 years’ experience in tourism or a related field;

2) Demonstrated experience in research, analysis and report writing;

3) Knowledge of current and emerging global tourism trends;

4) Sound knowledge of project planning and principles; and

5) Understanding of the Fiji tourism industry.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

1) Sound communication, interpersonal and written presentation skills;

2) Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively within a team environment;

3) Ability to follow guidelines and appropriately apply processes;

4) Strong research, analytical and assessment skills;

5) Capacity to utilise computer programmes to support operations; and

6) Service oriented approach with a commitment to supporting the operational and corporate environment of the organisation.
