Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Gavoka Tours Fiji Museum in Suva

3 June 2026 | Suva, Fiji – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, paid an official visit by invitation to the Fiji Museum in Suva, hosted by CEO Armando Lowe and Manager of Archaeology Mereoni Camailakeba.

The guided tour took the Minister through the museum’s galleries, where artefacts spanning centuries of iTaukei culture and the traditions of Fiji’s wider island communities are on permanent display. The collection offers one of the most complete records of Fijian cultural heritage available to the public.

Among the highlights of the visit was a firsthand look at the museum’s ongoing digitisation programme. The museum is working to create digital records of its entire collection, a process that protects artefacts from physical deterioration, makes the collection accessible to researchers and communities around the world, and ensures Fiji’s cultural record is preserved for future generations.

Located in Thurston Gardens in the heart of Suva, the Fiji Museum is one of the capital city’s foremost visitor attractions. The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation looks forward to working with Tourism Fiji to bring greater visibility to the museum as part of Fiji’s broader tourism offering.
