Empowering Fiji’s Tour Guides for a Sustainable Future

Denarau Nadi, 8 May 2025 – As part of Tourism Super Week 2025, the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and Tourism Fiji, launched a two-day Tour Guide Training for MSMEs in tourism—an initiative designed to uplift grassroots operators and strengthen professional customer service excellence while enhancing experiential tourism across Fiji.

Opening the training yesterday, Director of Tourism, Jacinta Lal, echoed the sentiments of Permanent Secretary, Ms. Salaseini Daunabuna, emphasizing how this program aligns with the Fiji National Sustainable Tourism Framework. This training is one of the first tangible steps in the National Sustainable Tourism Framework Action Plan, ensuring that local communities are meaningfully connected to Fiji’s thriving tourism industry.

Held at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort, the first day saw tour operators from across Fiji gaining valuable insights into customer service delivery, led by Ana Rayawa, Learning and Development Manager at Rosie Tours. With her expertise, participants explored how exceptional service enhances the immersive experiences that make Fiji a world-class destination.

The training focused on key service modules, emphasizing the essence of delivering exceptional experiences, understanding what clients’ value to create lasting impressions, and recognizing how every interaction shapes visitor perception. It also highlighted the importance of responsibility and professionalism in tour operations.

For beginners, the program introduced foundational tour guiding skills, including an overview of the role, essential communication techniques for engaging with visitors, and the basics of planning seamless and memorable tours.This initiative is more than just training—it’s about showcasing Fiji’s breathtaking scenery, pristine sights, and the aura that captivates travellers. From the lush rainforests to the crystal-clear waters, tour guides play a vital role in curating unforgettable experiences that highlight Fiji’s natural beauty and cultural richness.

With tourism as Fiji’s largest economic driver, this program reflects the Fiji Government’s commitment to ensuring that grassroots operators and community-based tourism businesses are empowered to deliver world-class service.
