Hon. Viliame Gavoka Leads Engagement Visit to the Mamanuca Islands

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon Viliame Gavoka, along with the Ministry’s Community Engagement Team, recently visited Tavua and Yanuya villages in the Mamanuca Islands.

During the visit, the team conducted awareness on the Ministry’s programmed, including the Pilot Tourism Micro and Small Enterprise Grant Fund.

We also have the opportunity to meet stakeholders at the Sheraton Resort & Spa on Tokoriki Island and Matamanoa Island Resort.

A key highlight of the tour was engaging with tourism operators of all scales, from small local businesses to larger scale resorts. Hon Gavoka emphasized the vital role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in rural, remote, and maritime areas, as well as the contributions of major hotels in boosting Fiji’s tourism economy.

This visit also aimed to foster sustainable investments by strengthening partnerships between local resource owners and domestic/foreign investors, supporting the localization of tourism development.

The Pilot Tourism Micro and Small Enterprises Grant is set to empower more MSMEs, women, youth, mataqali, and community-led tourism initiatives, paving the way for inclusive growth in Fiji’s tourism industry.
