Deputy Prime Minister Responds to Social Media Commentary on CAAF
Press Release – Deputy Prime Minister Responds to Social Media Commentary on CAAF
Suva, Fiji – 29 September 2025 – The Government is aware of ongoing social media commentary directed at the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF). These claims are not supported by evidence and risk creating unnecessary concern among stakeholders. Fiji’s aviation safety and international reputation remain paramount and will not be compromised.
CAAF exercises its mandate under the laws of Fiji and in alignment with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. All regulatory decisions are grounded in evidence and risk assessment. They are not determined through social media exchanges.
The Authority’s record is evident in Fiji’s strong aviation sector performance and the vital role aviation continues to play in sustaining the growth of the tourism industry. These outcomes reflect the regulator’s professionalism and control in discharging its responsibilities.
The Government also acknowledges the ongoing support of industry partners who recognise CAAF’s firm and fair approach to safety and security, and who share in its commitment to the principle of “Safe Skies, Secure Fiji.”
Any operator with relevant information or proposals for acceptable means of compliance that demonstrate an equivalent or higher level of safety is encouraged to submit them through the established channels for timely review.
The Coalition Government reaffirms its support for open dialogue, due process, and transparent outcomes, with aviation safety as the highest priority at all times.
