
Press Release: Fiji Hosts Launch of Visa’s Pacific Islands Regional Office
Suva, Fiji – November 13, 2025 – Visa officially opened its Pacific Islands Regional Office in Suva, marking a significant step in strengthening digital payment systems across the region. The launch event was held at the Grand Pacific Hotel and officiated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka.
In his remarks, Hon. Gavoka emphasized the government’s commitment to partnerships that advance digital transformation, financial inclusion, and economic resilience. He noted Fiji’s progress in economic recovery and digital readiness, highlighting the growing momentum in tourism, trade, and technology.
“Secure and efficient payment systems are essential for improving visitor experiences and supporting local businesses,” Gavoka said during the event. He added that Visa’s decision to establish a permanent base in Suva reflects confidence in Fiji’s stability, policy direction, and economic potential.
Visa’s investment in technology and security, valued at FJD 27 billion over the next five years, will support initiatives such as mobile wallets, MSME development, and digital platforms that expand access to global markets. These efforts align with Fiji’s national priorities in digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and sustainable growth, as outlined in the National Development Plan, the Fiji Tourism Policy, and the National Sustainable Tourism Framework.
Hon. Gavoka reaffirmed the Coalition Government’s support for innovation and competitiveness, stating that Fiji aims to lead the Pacific in digital progress through modern systems and robust financial networks. He thanked Visa for its long-standing partnership and described the new regional hub as a milestone for Suva and the wider Blue Pacific.
