Fiji Shines as LAGI 2025 Exhibition Brings Art, Culture, and Clean Energy to Life

Suva, 6 November 2025 – The Fiji Arts Council hosted the launch of the LAGI 2025 Fiji Exhibition last night, bringing national attention to design work that links art, culture, and renewable energy. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, opened the event and highlighted Fiji’s role as the first Pacific Island nation to host a Land Art Generator Initiative design competition. He stated that the exhibition strengthens Fiji’s position in global discussions on climate resilience and sustainable design.

The exhibition presents concepts that show how renewable energy systems support cultural identity and environmental priorities. These ideas align with the National Sustainable Tourism Framework, which calls for sustainable practices, low-emissions development, and community-led innovation. The Minister stressed that the LAGI designs reflect the standards outlined in the framework. He added that the work displayed in the gallery supports the goal of building tourism growth that protects ecosystems and strengthens climate resilience.

More than 200 submissions from 45 countries and 36 universities were received for the competition. Two winning projects are now preparing for construction at Marou Village in the Yasawas. The selected project will provide clean power and safe water for the community. It will also create a shared space for learning, storytelling, and cultural gatherings. The Minister thanked the people of Marou for their leadership and for supporting the design teams throughout the process.

The launch brought together partners from international universities, the Department of Energy, the Fiji Rural Electrification Fund, and the creative sector. The Minister noted that the exhibition shows how creative design adds value to climate solutions and builds pride in local communities. He encouraged students, artists, and policymakers to use these ideas to shape future work in tourism and sustainable development.
