PRESS RELEASE – Hon. Viliame Gavoka Announces Next Stage of Na Vualiku Tourism Development Program in Parliament

Suva, Fiji – 26 November 2025 – The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation today announced the next phase of the Na Vualiku Tourism Development Program, by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Hon. Viliame Gavoka in parliament today.

This stage introduces a Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) and Community-Based Tourism (CBT) Grants Pilot Program, set to launch on 11 December in Labasa and Savusavu and 12 December in Taveuni.

The programme is designed to empower tourism operators in villages, settlements, and towns across Vanua Levu and Taveuni, providing financial support and capacity-building opportunities for small enterprises and community groups.

Key Features of the Programme:

  • A transparent and accountable grants process for MSMEs and community tourism initiatives.
  • Strong connections between infrastructure upgrades—roads, airports, and services—and income opportunities for local communities.
  • Guidance through the Integrated Tourism Master Plan, ensuring long-term sustainability and inclusive growth.
  • Built on extensive consultations across the Northern Division, reflecting community priorities.

Hon. Gavoka emphasized the importance of participation:

“The next step is clear. We will open applications during the December launches in Labasa, Savusavu, and Taveuni, and we will ensure that every process is transparent and accountable.”

Communities and MSMEs are encouraged to:

  • Prepare Expressions of Interest.
  • Submit ideas that showcase culture, heritage, and local talent.
  • Take advantage of training, advisory support, and fair assessment provided under the programme.

This initiative places people at the centre of tourism development, supporting mat weavers, eco-guides, guesthouse and homestay owners, cultural groups, and others while strengthening the link between infrastructure improvements and local economic opportunities.

Applications will open during the December launches. This is your moment to participate and grow.
