Press Release – New Nadi Police Station Opens as a Beacon of Safety and Service
Nadi, Fiji – 14 November 2025 – A new chapter in community security and public service began today with the official opening of the New Nadi Police Station, officiated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Honourable Viliame Gavoka.
Speaking at the ceremony, Honourable Gavoka described the station as more than a building; it is a promise of safety, integrity, and trust for every citizen and visitor to Fiji. “This facility represents our commitment to security and service, ensuring that Nadi remains a safe and thriving hub for families, businesses, and travellers,” he said.
The Minister acknowledged that the previous station served Nadi with dedication for decades, but rapid growth in population, commerce, and tourism demanded a modern solution. The new station consolidates all units under one roof, enabling faster response times and improved service delivery for the district.
“Nadi is not just a town, it is Fiji’s gateway to the world,” Honourable Gavoka noted. “Safety here means creating an environment where people can live, learn, and prosper without fear.”
A key feature of the new facility is the dedicated Tourist Police Team, tasked with safeguarding visitors and reinforcing Fiji’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination. Their work supports local businesses and ensures that every traveller leaves with confidence and peace of mind.
The project was delivered by Cope Construction Ltd at a cost of approximately $20 million, with design led by Maisuria Design Ltd. All engineering and safety certifications have been secured. Honourable Gavoka thanked all partners for their professionalism and commitment to excellence.
Addressing the officers who will serve at the station, the minister emphasised their role as guardians of peace and trust. “Your duty is sacred. You are more than enforcers of the law—you are protectors of hope and builders of confidence,” he said. He acknowledged past challenges but urged officers to lead with integrity and courage, restoring trust and strengthening community relationships.
Honourable Gavoka reminded attendees that Nadi’s rapid growth brings both opportunity and responsibility. He called for strong partnerships between police and the community to ensure safety remains the foundation of progress. “When government, law enforcement, and citizens work together, we create a society where trust and opportunity flourish,” he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister concluded by declaring the station officially open, describing it as “a beacon of security, a pillar of trust, and a home for service, not just today, but for generations to come.”
The new Nadi Police Station stands as a symbol of renewal and resilience, reinforcing Fiji’s commitment to building strong institutions that protect and empower communities.
