TOURISM MINISTRY SUPPORTS COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT

As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering inclusive and diverse tourism, the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation’s Community Engagement Team, in collaboration with Provincial Councils, the Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry, the Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications, alongside valued partners such as Talanoa Treks, recently concluded a series of community visits across Nadroga, Navosa, Ba, Ra, and Tailevu.

Over the past two weeks, the engagements focused on raising awareness of Fiji’s National Sustainable Tourism Framework 2024-2034 and introducing the Pilot Tourism Micro and Small Enterprises Fund. The sessions also facilitated in-depth discussions on socio-economic opportunities within the tourism sector, encouraging active participation from community representatives, tourism operators, and neighbouring villages, including Nauavua, Navai, Naga, Nabutautau, Waikubukubu, Biuseu, Votualailai, Nakabuta, Narewa, Abaca, Nataleiira, and Silana.

The interactive group discussions provided a platform for stakeholders to share insights, strategies, and innovative ideas to strengthen community-based tourism initiatives. These collaborative efforts underscore our shared vision for sustainable tourism development, empowering local communities, and creating pathways for micro and small enterprises to thrive.

The Ministry remains dedicated to driving sustainable tourism growth, fostering partnerships, and ensuring that tourism benefits are equitably distributed across all communities. Together, we are building a resilient and inclusive tourism sector for Fiji’s future.
