๐๐๐๐, ๐ ๐๐๐ | ๐ ๐ซ๐ข๐๐๐ฒ, ๐๐ ๐๐๐ฉ๐ญ๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ซ ๐๐๐๐: The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, has affirmed the tourism sectorโs support for the whole-of-government response following Cabinetโs declaration this week of the HIV outbreak as a national crisis.
The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MTCA), the Tourism Action Group (TAG) and Tourism Fiji (TF) are aware of the public health discussions concerning the rise in HIV cases and issues related to drug use in the country. We take these matters seriously, and the well-being of our local communities and international visitors remains our greatest priority.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is the lead agency managing this public health challenge, and we remain in close communication with them to ensure that we are fully informed and guided by the appropriate health advice. Responses from MTCA and TAG will be coordinated through TAG.
โFijiโs HIV response is a public health matter led by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, and the tourism sector will support the response, guided by its advice. We are combating the threat through a whole-of-government approach and are confident that we will prevail over HIV. Meanwhile, the tourism industry continues to operate normally, with a record number of visitors enjoying the warmth and friendliness for which Fiji is renowned,โ said the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka.
Fiji remains open to international visitors, and tourism services continue to operate normally.
The tourism partners and stakeholders will continue to monitor developments closely and ensure that information provided to tourism operators, industry partners and visitors remains accurate, consistent and guided by official public health advice.
Members of the public and visitors seeking information about HIV transmission, prevention, testing and treatment are encouraged to refer to official advisories issued by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.
