Deputy Prime Minister Calls for Stronger Agriculture-Tourism Partnership at National Agriculture Show
๐๐ ๐๐๐ฉ๐ญ๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ซ, ๐๐๐๐ – ๐๐๐๐ – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, has highlighted the importance of closer collaboration between Fijiโs agriculture and tourism sectors to build resilience and drive authentic visitor experiences.
Speaking at the plenary session of the 2025 National Agriculture Show at Koroivolu Park, Hon. Gavoka said agriculture and tourism are two pillars of the economy that must walk hand in hand. โEvery visitor should taste the richness of our soil, and every farmer should see their pride reflected in the pride of our nation,โ he said.
With nearly one million visitors arriving in Fiji last year, the Minister underscored the opportunity for farmers to meet rising demand for authentic Fijian cuisine. He encouraged farmers to diversify crops such as herbs and exotic fruits, build direct partnerships with hotels, and invest in sustainable practices that align with eco-conscious travelers.
Agro-tourism, he noted, is one of the fastest-growing global travel trends, offering opportunities for farm visits, homestays, and farm-to-table dining experiences. Culinary tourism is equally vital, with tourists seeking Fijian-grown food as part of their travel experience.
The Coalition Government, Gavoka affirmed, is committed to:

- Supporting cooperatives and agribusinesses to expand.
- Promoting sustainable farming and eco-tourism models.
- Encouraging rural tourism investment.
